Rollback Changes

Modified on Fri, 8 Nov, 2024 at 11:00 AM

Often when working on a project plan, you will want to try out some changes but may not want to keep them.  To rollback changes to a set point in time, you can use the restore point.

Creating a Restore Point

  • Click on the restore point icon in the Gantt toolbar:

This will open the following drop-down menu:

  • Select Create a Schedule Restore Point.

This will open the following window:

  • Enter a name for the restore point
  • Click OK.

Note:  There will be a slight delay while the restore point is created and the Gantt refreshes.

Rolling Back to a Restore Point

To restore the schedule to a restore point:

  • Click the restore point icon
  • Select a Schedule Restore Point from the menu

A list of previous restore points will be displayed with the name plus the date and time the restore point was created:

  • Select a restore point

A list of all the changes (conflicts) between the current schedule and the restore point will be displayed:

By default, all changes are selected for rollback but you may uncheck one or more tasks if they do not want to rollback a particular change.

Clicking the hyperlink in the conflict column will display more information about the change made to that task since the restore point was taken:

Note:  If a task has been added since a restore point, rolling back to that restore point will delete the newly added task.

Note:  If a task has been deleted since a restore point, rolling back to the restore point will recover the task.

Deleting a Restore Point

You can create as many restore points as needed but you may want to delete old restore points if they are no longer needed.

To delete a restore point:

  • Click the restore points icon
  • Choose ‘Delete a Schedule Restore Point from the menu
  •  This will open the following window.
  • Select the name of the Restore Point you want to delete
  • Click Delete

You will be prompted to confirm the deletion as once deleted, a restore point cannot be recovered.

  • Click Confirm to complete the action or Cancel to abandon the action.

Note:  A restore point is for the current project only.  Any schedules for any sub-projects are not saved to the restore point.   Restore points are personal to the user.   You cannot access other users restore points.

Note:  Actual resources on tasks are not affected by rolling back to a restore point.  For example, if a user has recorded ten hours of effort for a task in their timesheet since the restore point was taken, rolling back will not remove those ten hours.
